Dave Hood, President- First Alarm
Dave Hood joined First Alarm in 1989. As the President of First Alarm he oversees all aspects of the company's operations. In his 22 year career with First Alarm, he has held leadership roles in both security guard-force management and electronic security systems.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Golden Gate University, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University. As an active member of the community, Dave currently chairs the Career Center Committee for the Santa Cruz County Workforce. He also recently finished his term as Finance Director for the La Selva Beach Parks and Recreation District in Santa Cruz County.
Cal Horton, President- First Alarm Security & Patrol, Inc.
Cal Horton began his career with First Alarm in 1987 as the first Security Manager of First Alarm Security & Patrol, Inc. Since that time, Mr. Horton has led the company's expansion through strong leadership and innovative business strategies toward the advancement of professionalism with the security industry.
Mr. Horton is a board certified Security Protection Professional (CCP), a member and past Vice President of the Monterey Chapter of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), a founding board member and past Northern California Vice President of the California Association of Licensed Security Agencies, Guard & Associates (CALSAGA), and past chair of the Certification Board for the CALSAGA Private patrol Operator Certification Program.
Mr. Horton has published numerous articles in trade publications regarding property security solutions and has written hundreds of operational security guidelines. He has an extensive background in public service, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, and emergency communications. He holds an Associate in Science degree in Administration of Justice from Cabrillo College, is a graduate of Central Coast Counties Police Academy at Gavilan College, he also holds a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate, as well as, a current Emergency Medical Technician 1A (EMT-1A) certificate and a Level III Homeland Security Certification.
Jeffrey Samuels, Central Station Manager, FSO- First Alarm
Jeffrey Samuels was recruited to serve as First Alarm's Central Station Manager in recognition of his extensive training and experience in a wide range of manual and automated alarm monitoring systems. Serving First Alarm for almost 30 years, Mr. Samuels' advanced expertise makes him one of the nation's most sophisticated managers of automated monitoring systems. He is highly regarded by his peers, not only for his experience, but for his professionalism and personal integrity.
Mr. Samuels' responsibilities include supervising dispatch personnel, maintaining communication and alarm receiving equipment, as well as the automation computer hardware and software. Mr. Samuels also serves as First Alarm's Facility Security Officer ('FSO') for its National Industrial Security Program ('NISP'). He has successfully completed the Essentials of Industrial Security Management Course given through the U.S. Army Training Support Center for the Army Institute for Professional Development.
Mr. Samuels is a member of the Central Station Alarm Association ('CSAA'), and regularly contributes to MASterMind Integrated Software Platform users' group fora.
Teresa Huerta Larkin, LL.M, AMLA, CAPA - First Alarm Security & Patrol, Inc.
Teresa Huerta Larkin is the Director of Legal Affairs for First Alarm Security & Patrol, Inc. She is a member of the American Society for Industrial Security ('ASIS'), a member of the California Association of Licensed Agencies, Guards & Associates ('CALSAGA') and a member of the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety ('IAHSS').
Ms. Larkin began her career with the First Alarm companies twenty years ago serving as General Manager for the systems division. She has an extensive background in contracting in private and public sectors -- general and subcontracting. As a public servant, Ms. Larkin completed P.O.S.T. 832 standards in training and served as a reserve police officer for the Scotts Valley, California, Police Department. Among other assignments, she was tasked to fly evidence to the California Department of Justice in Sacramento.
Ms. Larkin holds a Bachelor of Science in Law, an Executive Juris Doctor, and a Master of Laws in the legal specialty of International Taxation and Finance Centers. She holds a Certificate of Expertise in Anti-Money Laundering & Compliance from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, San Diego, California, and an International Certification in Anti-Money Laundering Awareness ('AMLA') from the International Compliance Association, West Midlands, United Kingdom. Ms. Larkin is a Certified Asset Protection Analyst ('CAPA') with subject matter emphasis on immigration in international business planning, and is designated as a Fellow of the American Academy of Financial Management.
Jarl E. Saal- Founder & Executive Chairman
Jarl started in the security industry in 1966 providing private security guard and patrol services to the Santa Cruz area of California. Over the years, Jarl has gained notoriety in his innovative approach to the industry, emphasizing the blending of security technology with the human aspects of security.
As the chief architect of First Alarm's mix of products and services, Jarl devotes a great deal of time to researching and vetting the best solutions available. Jarl also performs high-level security consulting to First Alarm's larger protected properties, and is a sought after specialist in high-risk facility security.
Bill Edmonson- Senior Technician & Director
Originally from Manhattan, New York, Bill joined First Alarm in 1981 and currently serves as First Alarm's Senior Systems Technician. Bill is responsible for the creation of many of the technical and quality assurance standards that have elevated First Alarm's reputation in the industry.
In his current role, Bill provides high-level design consultation and project management for First Alarm's larger accounts. Bill frequently travels throughout the U.S. consulting on security projects and providing technical support. Bill serves both as a member of the Board of Directors and is a trustee for the Employee Stock Ownership (ESOP).
